Distant Stars
FAction Selection Rules
All factions are created in parallel. All players must finish each step of faction creation before any player continues on to the next step.
Homeworlds
Homeworld type will be chosen randomly - each player rolls a d9 and is assigned the according homeworld type with 1 corresponding to Desert and moving down each column before moving from the left column to the right.
Traits
First Trait will be randomly assigned - roll a d36 and apply the according Trait from the list counting from top to bottom.
Second trait will be chosen by an opponent - from the remaining available traits for player B, player A will choose any trait for player B's faction. Player B will then do the same for player C, etc.
Other traits are by choice - After the first two traits, each player may then choose as many additional traits as they want.
Government & Ethics
First Ethic will be randomly assigned - roll a d9 and apply the according Ethic with Militarist corresponding to a result of 1 and continuing clockwise around the ethics selection. A roll of 9 corresponds to Gestalt Consciousness and the player will not choose further ethics. This is the only point where a player can gain the Gestalt Consciousness ethic since it requires all ethic points.
Second Ethic will be chosen by an opponent - an opponent who did not choose one of their Traits will now choose to either upgrade the player's random Ethic to Fanatical or pick any available additional Ethic for the player.
Third Ethic is by choice - the player may choose to upgrade any of his current Ethics to Fanatical or choose a new Ethic
Government is by choice - each player may choose any government from his available types
Civics are by choice - each player may choose any civics from his available choices
Vetoes
Any player may veto one random or player selected trait or Ethic during the selection process. If a random selection is vetoed the player can re-roll until a different option is rolled, the vetoed option may also not be chosen for him by his opponent in later rounds. If a player vetoes an opponent's choice, the opponent simply must choose another available option for the player.

Scoring
Base Score
Each players base score will be equal to their number of Empire Systems plus the number of Empire Systems held by all subjects plus half the Empire Systems of any AI Allies or Federation members. Any Allies or Federation members that are shared between multiplayer players will have their score values split appropriately.
Scoring
Each players base score will be recorded every 25 years beginning in 2225 until the game ends in 2425. Starting with scoring in 2325, base score will be doubled for each player. The final scoring in 2425 will be tripled.
Bonus Scoring
Any scoring session in which a player achieves one of the following goals, his score for that session will be doubled. Each goal can only be achieved once, so only the first player to achieve the goal gets the bonus and can only claim it once. The player must inform the host of the achievement.
- Uncover, steal, or otherwise acquire an Ancient Relic
- Construct a Megastructure
- Launch a Titan-class capital ship
- Defeat a Leviathan/Guardian creature
- Visit an L-Cluster
