Episode 3 - The Gathering Storm
His Highness, Graf Baldric von Neufwald, Lord of Ubersreik, Siedlung, and Frugelhorn,
As you doubtlessly know, the people of the Flusslandet are Reikland's most stalwart and dependable subjects, and have always served as a vital and irreplaceable link between our peers along the Teufel, such as Ubersriek and Grunberg. Without our brave Stromdorf and its upright citizenry, I would fear for the continued security of those men of softer heritage that now inhabit Reikland's vulnerable hills and plains. You will have been well educated on our people's part in sparing Reikland from the bloodthirsty destruction brought by the goblin known as Grom the Paunch during the time of my grandsire. Rather than face the tenacious forces of the Flusslandet, the repugnant greenskins fled elsewhere to wreak their havoc. This same heroism can be seen as far back as the Wars of the Vampire Counts, when the heroic Captain Olaus Stichelm and his men, valiant Stromdorfers all, brought low the army of one those blasphemous monsters along the Tranig River. Whether you believe Martold von Nuln's dramatically nightmarish history of that civil war or not, the importance of Stichelm's courageous victory is irrefutable.
It is with these facts in mind that I wish to make you aware that the venerable legacy of Stromdorf is being most dishonorably served under your vassal's rule. From Auerswald, Baron Fredrick von Jungfreud, has inflicted upon us one of his ineffectual sycophants as our burgomeister, a puppet from distant Altdorf, who now disregards even his most basic duties to our great city. One of those duties would be to bring the authority of the Baron to bear against the latest threats of the Free Brokers' Guild. without our liege's support, I am shamed to admit that Stromdorf is almost completely at the mercy of this thuggish organization due to their control of shipping on the Teufel. Their demands, starting with the investigation of one fool merchant's disappearance, are now climbing towards unprecedented and insulting special privileges. If this were not enough, a vicious warband of greenskins, a chronic nuisance based in the inhospitable Blitzfilzen Hills, have recently made the Nuln Road impossible to travel and have effectively cut off one of Stromdorf's few alternatives to dealing with the Free Brokers' Guild.
The people of Stromdorf refuse to be dishonored and diminished in this way. The conflicts between Baron Fredrick and yourself have become known to our council, and the friction between your family and the guilds of Ubersreik is common knowledge. I hope I have not been presumptuous in concluding that we are likely to have common cause. I believe you have it within your power to set things aright once again, and I assure you that the loyalty of the people of the Flusslandet is steadfast when earned. I am confident that the mere mention of the outrageous incursions of our ancient enemy will soon see your regimental banners at our gates.
Blessings of Sigmar upon you,
Marcel Gerber, Alderman of Stromdorf
