The God-Slayer
Daemons, sentient beings formed from and fed by the raw energies and emotions that rage at the poles of the world and feed the Eight Winds, can only maintain their presence in the mortal realms in locations of concentrated magic or when anchored by artifacts or entities of great personal power. A Daemon Prince, a rare warrior given vast power by the Chaos Gods and conduit of magical energy, is one of the few beings that can lead a whole army of daemons into the mortal realms, thirsting after the souls and screams of its inhabitants. Such events have occurred in the Empire's past, though their trail of carnage inevitably leaves few witnesses who are both living and sane, and major battles where mortals have rallied against a demonic host tend to pass into history with much debate about the true nature of the enemy. Those who are unlucky enough to know the truth tend to keep such truths to themselves, and even those who have seen a demon will try their hardest to convince themselves otherwise.
There are, however, uncivilized tribes that have accepted the presence and power of the daemons in their society, including the seafaring raiders of Norsca and the lesser known nomads of the northern wastes. In these lands the demon is a servant of the Gods to be both feared and worshiped, and many seek infernal pacts with these beings in order to gain access to their powers and prove their devotion to the Ruinous Powers. Though there are means for daemons to tear into the mortal plane at any location, those that border these realms are the most likely to experience the onslaught of a daemonic invasion. It is here that a Daemon Prince can build an army, bending mortal and immortals to his will, to once more bring forth the glory of Chaos into the lands of those who cower from its touch.

Prologue - Into a Land of Blood and Ice
Final Entry of Captain Gerald von Lutzenstelholf, 4th Nordland Sea Watch Regiment - 07 Nachgeheim, 2502 IC
Nothing we will find here could ever be worth this misery. By Sigmar, I will retire from the Watch and throw my lot in with Gerry's bakery if I make it home. The General had me personally guard the vagabond again yesterday, and this manservant work is beginning to chafe as much as my knapsack. I followed him to the top of a freezing nameless peak today, so he could apparently read his fancy book and mutter to himself like Old Herb back at Pa's farm. He's certainly touched like Old Herb was, but the General has made it clear that his protection is of the utmost importance, and has consulted with him everyday since we set up camp at the Bay of Blades. Hence his current fury after I told him the vagabond could not be found this morning. The General let this hedge wizard guide us for four days up this bleak valley track, and then just disappears in the night. While the General seems fit to skin us all alive, at least he might now turn this fool's errand around and let me lead the men back to the Bay. The Sea Watch has done it's job and torched the docks and hovels of the Skaelings and left their corpses for the crows, and now it's time to be off from this forsaken shore. The nightwatches are reporting more frequent sightings of "beasts" and we still have no idea what killed Corporal Erwitz. Tomorrow, I'll plead with the General personally, but until then I have a search party to organize.

Chapter 1 - The Ascendant
Turns 1 - 54
24 Nachgeheim, 2502 IC
The gracious Prince has not killed me, though he is certainly the noble Prince Yuri no longer. Yuri is long gone, lost to his madness just as was told by the few soldiers who returned from his final expedition, and has been replaced by Arbaal, a creature of endless ambition and hate. A creature of bloodlust and destruction and perhaps the greatest hope to save the mortal world if I earn his trust. The tome has shown me Be'lakor's scheme, and I have scryed its countless pages for one leader, any leader, who might stop it. Woe upon the world that its best hope for salvation is a rival for the eyes of the Chaos Gods.
I fear the soldiers of the Nordland Sea Watch will be only the first of many sacrifices that must be made in order to bring Arbaal's blade against Be'lakor. With the Gods' infrequent mercy, some of the regiment escaped the attack on the Bay of Blades and will be able to sail home. Watching the God-Slayer's horrors butcher and burn the Norscans has been more palatable, though I cannot help but be impressed by the willingness of the Skaelings and Sarls to meet daemons blade-to-blade; a foolish willingness, make no mistake. The Skaelings have been forced to retreat to Longship Graveyard where they are now surrounded by the God-Slayer and his allies, the Graelings and Bjornlings. With some persuasion, the God-Slayer agreed to accept the gifts sent to him by the chiefs of these latter tribes, instead of taking their messengers' heads and demanding their subjugation, as was his wont. While the God-Slayer has wandered the icy mountain passes, Supreme Patriarch Kostaltyn has vowed to hunt down Kislev's infamous traitor-prince and is marshalling a large fleet to carry his host to Norsca, and if comes upon us while we are fighting the Norscans all my plans will be for naught. Even if they think they act on their own accord, these Norscan allies will help sow havoc among those who seek us before we are ready.
5 Brauzeit, 2502 IC
Only the Chaos Realms themselves could make one joyous to see the frozen walls of the Doomkeep again, but we have our first prize: the soul of the Gardener. I followed the God-Slayer first into the realm of the Blood God, where we ran afoul of the machinations of the Greater Daemon, Ku'gath, and were banished empty handed, but the rifts favored us with a second chance and entry into the Festering Lands. Here we were pitted against a strange and unknown foe: the famed Strom Dragon of Cathay and her army, and bested her before the gates of the Plaguefather's palace in order to when the honor of ascending into his putrid garden. From what I witnessed, the Gardener was a formidable opponent for the God-Slayer.
Before the rifts had opened, the God-Slayers legions had been tested by the vengeful southerners. Near the Bay of Blades, the demons of the Godsbane Legion had met Kostaltyn's host and sent it fleeing, broken, back to Kislev. Further north, near the Longship Graveyard landed an another army sent by Elector Count Theoderic from Nordland. While I had hoped the Count would cut his losses, this was not entirely surprising. The Graelings had surrounded and eliminated the last bands of the Skaelings and their chieftain at the Graveyard, and the region had been left mostly unlooked after, but the men of Nordland still struggled against disease and the elements. The God-Slayer had recently acquired the loyalty of a particularly charismatic Plaguebearer who would lead the Daemon Prince's second legion to ambush the interlopers as they made their way towards the Bay of Blades, and the struggling army fell right into its trap. Meanwhile the God-Slayer sailed across the Sea of Claws and put Dietershafen to the torch, sacrificing much of its population to the glory of his new Gods. Count Boris's army, nearby and ready to support Nordland's next foray across the Sea, moved to liberate the city, but was unable to rout the demons. Though Todbringer had retreated, more armies from Middenland had been mustered and would arrive soon to confront the incursion, and the God-Slayer was unable to reinforce his battered army here. Using the open rifts, we returned to Norsca to prepare for the campaign into the Chaos Realms.
The Sarl tribe has continued to resist the God-Slayer's expanding influence over Norsca, despite being defeated in a major clash along the Ice Tooth slopes approaching the Doomkeep. After second major battle at the foot of the Trollheim Mountains, where Sarl defenders failed to hold the notorious Altar of the Crimson Harvest against the daemons, the clan has regrouped at the Tower of Khrakk and shows every intention of being a thorn in the God-Slayer's side. Their chieftain, , is the only notable figure among the Norscans who still openly opposes the God-Slayers will. In contrast, Chieftain Sven Ovesen has taken to his role with vigour. Longships bearing the sigils of the Graelings have returned to Norsca with hulls filled to bursting with what wealth could be found in Nordland. Elector Count Theoderic had clearly overextended himself and had no expectation of such a strong counterattack. Last I have heard, Theoderic, has shamefully failed to hold Salzenmund against the Graelings and has fled to Middenland. For now, Nordland has fallen to the Graelings, and the Empire is in no state to meddle in the God-Slayer's plans.

Chapter 2 - Chaos Undivided
Turns 54 - 71
24 Nachgeheim, 2502 IC
We have emerged from another foray into the hell of the Ruinous Powers with another Prince of Darkness ensnared within the Tome. Again I hesitate to put what I have witnessed onto parchment for fear the act will rend my enervated soul. Little word has reached Doomkeep of the greater state of the world, but that word speaks of an great Ogre invasion of Empire from across the World's Teeth that has swept along the Reik. With the power of Altdorf proven weak, mankind turns to Middenheim and Elector Count Boris or to Kostaltyn and his growing power over all Kislev for safety and guidance, but neither will be able to prevent the oncoming enslavement of the worlf to Be'lakor's grand scheme. Only the rival powers of Chaos prove themselves to have the strength of will necessary to challenge Be'lakor designs for the Bear-God. The Tome lists their names...N'kari...Ku'gath...Skarbrand.
As could be assumed, Sven Ovesen's dominance over Nordland has been tenuous and accomplished little more than ravaging what little civilization could be found in the province. Despite this, it has mostly succeeded in preventing the men of the Empire from sending further forces against the God-Slayer. On the other hand, either the war in Nordland or the corruption of the rifts has roused a strong response from the elves of Laurelorn Forest, and whether or not they plan to move against the God-Slayer must now be taken into account at each step of my plan. In Norsca, the God-Slayer has seen fit to challenge Skarbrand directly, and has ordered the Legion of the Harvest-Pyre to contest his hold over the Forbidden Citadel. He has sealed a pact with the kingdom of the Crimson Skull, ruled by a Greater Daemon, known as Khorsen, who is currently in ascendance within the Chaos Wastes. Together, the two hope to pen in and strangle the growing influence of Skarbrand. However, the Tome urges us to move against N'kari, and I fear this greater threat may prove out of reach. Confronting this fearsome entity, mentioned in many ancient histories of the elves, will be a true test of the God-Slayer's cunning.
