The Reikland Importers’ Guild has a lot of people, contracts, and goods to keep track of and you are one of the agents they use to do so. It may have started as menial odd-jobs, but you quickly proved that you could get things done. In short order, you were allowed to bear the guilds emblems and seals and were given tasks of crucial responsibility outside the purview of the guild’s many merchants and organizers. In pursuance of your duties, you have regularly interacted with those far above your class and station, with the guild’s backing allowing you to treat with them as peers, but you have also had to readily dive into the city’s slums and harbor district. Whether money has gone missing, a contract urgently needed to be renegotiated, or the guildmaster’s favorite messenger was murdered, you have been responsible for finding a quick and appealing solution to the guild’s problem.
Herr Reinbrambt von Pramet has been your official employer, and has been fair with expectations and payment. However, he has not been fair with information. You have often been expected to accomplish your tasks with few to no questions asked, and you are always expected to keep your activities subtle. So far, Reinbrambt has not seen fit to include you in the frequent meetings of the Altdorf branch, where strategy and planning are discussed. Sometimes the secrecy seemed excessive and you cannot help but wonder exactly what secrets are protected by the guild’s inner circle.
Unfortunately, your patron seems to have fallen out of favor. With no warning, Herr Reinbrambt disappeared from Altdorf and no one in the guild could or would offer any explanation. Some of your usual sources claimed he had taken ship upriver towards Grunberg or Ubersreik in the dead of night, but this rumor could also have been spread to cover-up his discrete termination by a rival guild, or even by the Importers’ Guild itself. Whatever the case, Herr Reinbrambt’s replacement has given you your next task.
Only rarely have your missions taken you into the backwards countryside outside of Altdorf. You once had to chase a contract all the way downriver to Nuln, but your work rarely brought you in contact with the uncouth commoners of Reikland’s farm villages. Now this strange task has you meeting some nameless merchant in the tiny village of Rurhafen near the Talabecland border with only a vague description of the delivery you should be expecting. As you bed down for the night in the town’s only inn, your concerns regarding possible smuggling quickly recede in priority as you hear screams nearby accompanied by hateful and inhuman roars.
What contacts and friends do you have in Altdorf? What was your favorite haunt?
Were you expected to regularly perform illegal activities or did you make sure to keep your methods clean?
When the bailiff questioned you about Reinbrambt’s activities leading up to his disappearance, how much did you hide?
