Lord Mazdamundi has sent the fearsome Kroq-Gar across the world pond to the Southlands in accordance with the latest interpretations of the sacred plaques. In this far continent, the Last Defender of Xhotl must establish a power base among the Temple of Skull's caretakers to enact the next stage of the Great Plan and hunt out the sacred plaques that shall progress the rituals that will bind the Great Vortex to the geomantic web. The region has been overrun by the Xa'Kota, the unnatural rat spawn, and the repositories of the sacred plaques will not be secure so long as they infest the temple-cities. The Temple of Skull's priests have informed Kroq-Gar that the center of vermin activity lies on the other side of the Red Rivers, under the ruins of great Yuatek.
Meanwhile, Queek Headtaker, the favored scion of Clan Mors, has emerged from under the City of Pillars. Dispatched by Grey Seer Vulscreek at the behest of the Council of Thirteen, Warlord Queek and his warriors have been sent deep into the Southlands, to the lairs under the ruined city of Yuatek. Queek's task is to garner as much precious warpstone as possible and repel an incursion of the hated elves from their island strongholds, a challenge surely linked with the arrival of the Horned Omen in the sky. However, Queek's scouts report that the largest hordes of warpstone have been gathered and locked away under the monolithic temples guarded by the lizardmen of the jungle. His spies warn that a great army of the reptiles is mobilizing across the rivers that carve through the mountains, there waters tinted the color of blood from their sediment, at an ancient site known as the Temple of Skulls. Warlord Queek knows that deviating from the council's plan to exterminate this threat to skaven control of the Southlands will infuriate the Grey Seers, but Queek cares only for the success of his task...and finding another worthy head for his collection.
