Lord Mazdamundi has sent the fearsome Kroq-Gar across the world pond to the Southlands in accordance with the latest interpretations of the sacred plaques. In this far continent, the Last Defender of Xhotl must establish a power base among the Temple of Skull's caretakers to enact the next stage of the Great Plan and hunt out the sacred plaques that shall progress the rituals that will bind the Great Vortex to the geomantic web. The region has been overrun by the Xa'Kota, the unnatural rat spawn, and the repositories of the sacred plaques will not be secure so long as they infest the temple-cities. Furthermore, something is disturbing the anchors of the geomantic web focused around the temple. If the source of the violent disruptions emanating from the center of the Nehekhara Desert can be investigated and quelled, the Ritual of Alignment can proceed, binding the Great Vortex to the geomantic web.
Meanwhile, High King Settra the Imperishable has sensed the collapsing stability of the Great Vortex and the impending doom this presents for his immortal reign. As one solution to this growing problem, the great architect-priests of Khemri have harnessed the winds of magic in order to repurpose the weakened Vortex as a power reservoir, bringing untold power into the grasp of the Tomb Kings of Khemri. Yet the scheme has need of a focal point designed by the hands of beings that predate even Nehekhara, the Jade Skull of Tepok, currently enshrined among countless other bones in the Temple of Skulls. Jealously guarded by the Lizardmen, High King Settra intends for this distant site to join his many conquests. Alternatively, after centuries of searching the far corners of the world, the spies of Khemri have provided the High King with the locations of the scattered Books of Nagash. If he can obtain the consolidated power of the Great Necromancer, all other concerns will fall by the wayside.
